27

1.Political parties which submit candidacies to the elections to the Assembleia da República (Assembly of the Republic), to the Assembleias Legislativas Regionais (Regional Legislative Assemblies) and local authorities and candidates to elections to the Presidência da República (Presidency of the Republic) are entitled to a state subsidy for the execution of electoral campaigns, in accordance with the following paragraphs.
2.Right to the subsidy foreseen under the present article is granted to parties which compete for no less than 51% of the seats subject to voting in the Assembleia da República (Assembly of the Republic) or municipal governing bodies and which obtain overall no less than 2% of the seats for which they are competing and is granted to candidates for the Presidência da Republic (Presidency of the Republic) obtaining no less than 5% of the vote.
3.The grant is of a total amount equivalent to 2,500, 1,250 and 250 national minimum monthly salaries, the first of which amounts applies in the case of elections to the Assembleia da República (Assembly of the Republic), the second of which applies to elections to the Presidência da República (Presidency of the Republic) and the third of which applies to elections to Assembleias Legislativas Regionais (Regional Legislative Assemblies).
4.Allocation of the grant is made as follows:
-20% is to be distributed equally among those parties and candidates as meet the requisites of paragraph 2 of this Article whereas the remaining 80% is to be distributed in proportion to the electoral results obtained.
5.In the elections to local authorities, and for the purposes of the final part of the previous paragraph, only results obtained in terms of the number of candidates to directly elected municipal assemblies are to be considered.
6.In the elections to the Assembleias Legislativas Regionais (Regional Legislative Assemblies), the state subsidy is divided between the two Autonomous Regions according to the number of parliamentary deputies in the respective Assemblies and, within each Autonomous Region in accordance with paragraph 4 of the present article.
7.The state subsidy foreseen under this article is to be requested from the President of the Assembleia da República (Assembly of the Republic) within a period not exceeding 15 days following the official declaration of election results.
